  • MN US House Races, Your Thoughts

Posted by Andy on August 31st, 2006

So, many people are saying the Dems will take the US House in November.

For the Dems to take over the House, at least one of our MN seats is going have to flip. How do you see them breaking down? (Hint: There are 8 seats total)

I don’t really see any of the 8 seats changing parties.

No seats will change in Minnesota. But Dems have plenty of pick up opportunities elsewhere to win the majority. 26 to be exact.

Small-government conservatives are hoping hard that the Dems take at least one of the two buildings.

Gridlock is good, when every other choice involves passing taxing-and-spending measures.

Turns out that our erstwhile standard-bearers weren’t really espousing “conservatism” so much as “pork - but OUR pork!” I’m no happier building bike trails in far-flung RED states with my money than I would be to build them in BLUE states with my money. They really misunderstood what many conservative voters were looking for.

At this moment, I think Republicans will lose some seats, but not lose the majority. It took too many elections for us to net that many seats for them to be lost in one election. We may, however, get uncomfortably close to 218. I also agree that MN will maintain its 4-4 party split in the House delegation.

      You mean a 4-2-2 Split.
      D-R-RINO

I assume you’re referring to Ramstad and Gutknecht?

    7. Brent Metzler Says:

      You mean a 4-2-2 Split. D-R-RINO

No, technically it is more of a 2-2-4 split. D-DINO-R.

As a small-government conservative, I’m hoping the Republicans pick up big gains. Giving Reid or Pelosi majority leader status will only give weak-kneed Republicans more room to move to the left.

Keep in mind, this is NOT your father’s Democrat Party. Nor is it the “New Democrat Party” of 1992 that pretended to move to the center. One could argue that a more centrist Democrat Party would force Republicans more to the right – where they should be. But, this is now the Michael Moore/MoveOn.org (MMMOO??) Democrat Party. Giving this party control of either house will only encourage the liberal, big-government tendencies to come forward in all congressmen – including Republicans.

I’m still optimistic. In recent elections, the MSM has been big on pre-election, pro-Democrat hype only to see it fizzle when the electorate starts to get serious about the election. My prediction is that Dems will lose a seat in Minnesota.
