  • Light Rail Kills, Again

Posted by Andy on August 7th, 2006

Hiawatha Light Rail, the savior of humanity according to some, has taken another innocent life.

A man is dead after being hit by a Light Rail train in Minneapolis. It happened just after 5:00 p.m. Monday near the intersection of 46th and Hiawatha.

    Stop the rolling guillotines!

Is that the 3rd death from light rail?

“Hiawatha Light Rail, the savior of humanity according to some”

That would include your hero and head RINO - Tim Pawlenty

No money for road, but plenty to waste on rail.

    2. Andy Says:

Actually that would be our ‘hero’ Jesse ‘the Mind’ Ventura who got that rolling guillotine going.

    3. Kelly Richardson Says:

And now, because of Pawlenty (yes, him, because he signed the bills providing funding!), we’re about to build MORE?!??!

    4. Andy Says:

Not if we defeat that stupid MVST amendment. It is on the ballot, in our hands. Focus your anger where it matters.

    5. Sam Says:

Pawlenty could have stopped it with a pen.

Instead he help a press conference to tell everyone how much he supports rail and how proud he was of the $60 Million he spent.

      The anger is focus correctly.

Pawlenty sold out the Republican Party for a press conference.

Just like you Andy have sold out your principals so you can have photo ops.

I could respect your position that you would support (or at least not work against) the endorsed candidate.
But once you hopped in the truck - You jumped on the Pawlenty Train of “anything to win”

A train the seem designed to kill of conservative values.

    6. Dan Says:

Pawlenty’s accomplishments and goals: Expand Light Rail, Government run casinos, Increase fuel prices by botique fuel mixtures and mandates for Minnesota, raise taxes and fees, corporate welfare, HUGE boondoggle E-85 subsidies, strike down the first Amendment with a ridiculous proposed ban on drug ads (sure the ads are ridiculous - so the answer is more silliness, and tossing the Bill of Rights out the window?), wants state-wide smoking ban, more public dollars to the U for unneeded new buildings, while tuition skyrockets, FREE tuition for a few (on the public dime, so the C and B students pay the bill for the A students while paying more for their own education), “Qcare,” “Qcomp,” Qtip?… How is this guy any different than Hatch? Oh, yes. He likes to put an R by his name. Go Elephants! Beat those dang Donkeys. I hate that filthy mascott.

How many more will be killed by Pawlenty’s touted Northstar Line? How about the Mpls to St. Paul rail? Can’t blame Ventura for those. How many more billions of our dollars will T-Paw spend building state of the art (in the 19th Century) transportation systems?

      Sam,

Just like you Andy have sold out your principals so you can have photo ops.

To me politics, especially during election time is about winning elections. If you can’t win, you can’t get anything done.

It is very easy to sit back and bitch and moan all day, and rattle off a list of complaints. Any one can do that. Everyone in these threads seems very good at it. If we ever create a administrative positions for Whining, I’ll make sure to pass your names along.

Call me a sell out. Say what you want about me. I have my opinions, and you don’t like them. You don’t really know what they are, but my desire to win with Pawlenty, is enough for you to hate me and call me names. Fine. I could care less.

Oh and get it straight. I wasn’t jumping on the truck. I was driving the truck.

    8. Sam Says:

And that is my point, Andy. It is just about winning. No prinicipal. No ideas. Just Win.

We put a guy with an R in office. Yeah for Us.

Since I have asked before and you never answered, I can assume that you entire basis for support of Pawlenty is that he can win.

And I don’t hate you and don’t think I called you any names.
I just thought that you had some principals and ideals - and appear to abondon them over this.

Not the winning is bad, but what is the point of winning the election, if the candidate don’t actually support your ideals.

    9. Andy Says:

Principles, not principals. (I get called so many names from so many anti_pawlenty people, I can’t keep it straight anymore)

I am one that realizes unless you have your own name on the ballot, you can’t demand 100% ideological adherence to your beliefs. You have to pick the person that is the closest to your beliefs as early as you can.

Do I agree with Pawlenty 100%, no. That’s what pisses me off about all you whiners. You think that I do. When this election is done, things will be different here on RF. Trust me. But right now is not the time to drag the person that is closest to your ideals through the mud. That was 6 plus months ago, which if you go way back in my archives, you’ll see I was tough on him.

But here we are. Hatch or Pawlenty. Those are the only 2 who have a chance at winning. I do not want to see Hatch win. I do want to see Pawlenty win, and with the old big majority in the House (If we can also correct that), I would hope we could see the Pawlenty of 02 03.

But since everyone is abandoning ship on the GOP, we’re going to be screwed. COuld lose the house. We’re not gonna get close in the Senate. If we lose the Guv, the DFL is going to have a field day.

You think life under Pawlenty is bad. How about a dozen trains? Universal Single Payer HEalth care? a 4th highest in the nation income tax? Massive vehicle and gas taxes? Oppressive business regulations? Infringements on freedoms by taking away personal choice? An end to the 2nd amendment? A return to the nanny state Education Dept?

Yes, All of those would reality and on the agenda on day one. If there is no one with a chance of stopping them IE the Guv, they’re gonna pass immediately.

I know everyone is all pumped that Jason Lewis is back, and he is one of teh people leading the ’sometimes you have to lose in order to win later’ charge, but the things that teh DFL will do are the kinds of thing you’ll never be able to take away. You can’t make every citizen dependent on the Government, then pull the rug out next time. The political wake will come right back and knock you on your duff, if you do win back power the next time.

So sorry, I’m a sell out, what ever, but I don’t want to see the socialist at teh helm, even if it would be just one term. That is one too many.

      aaarrrggghhh

This is a likely reality with Pawlenty at the helm. Go check out MPR’s “Pick your candidate” feature. For me, Pawlenty ranked, 8 and Hatch 7. One point of difference between them. Pawlenty IS a socialist, and trending further left each year.

    11. Andy Says:

      You are kidding, right?

    12. Sara Nelson Says:

Why would we kid about such things Andy?

Are you SO blind to the cause that you are willing to support a closet Socialist for Governor, just because he has an R behind his name?

You are despicable, Andy Aplikowski. Your kind makes me sick, and yes, I voted for Tim Pawlenty in 2002, but YES, I DO HAVE THE RIGHT TO COMPLAIN, specifically BECAUSE I VOTED!

    13. Sam Says:

      Andy,

You show shock that someone thinks Pawlenty is trending left.

I put the same challenge to you that you put to Sara.

Give your reasons for voting FOR Pawlenty. (And not just, So Hatch doesn’t win)

    14. Andy Says:

You called him a socialist. That ain’t trending left.

    15. Sara Nelson Says:

Umm…. providing everyone with any and everything they want? Looks bad. Twins? Here’s a ballpark. Don’t know who, in bulk, is lobbying for these light rail lines, but here’s a few more trains! Hey kids, try and do good in school…. ya good enough to make top 25%? Here’s some free tuition money, even though its my fault in the first place that its so darn high! Oops, I can’t control Congress, so, aww, schucks. Guess we get to close the gov’t down for a bit!

Pawlenty’s screwed up, Andy. Admit it. It’s the first step to recovery. Cut your ties and give yourself a fresh start. You’ll feel so much better in the morning, and when you go to sleep, you will fall asleep knowing that the one you now support is truely the best conservative and is the saving grace of the entire Republican Party and movement, after all the allegations and scandals that have happened as of late.

    16. Andy Says:

Again all your hating Pawlenty supporting Sue Jeffers are so overwhelming.

Oh, and so you can step back from your character assassination for a moment this post was about how I am against LRT. Hello.

    17. Sam Says:

And we understand that you say you support conservative ideals - thus your active support of Pawlenty is what is troubling.

Still waiting for the “Why Vote for Pawlenty” answer. You make fun of Sara - but all we see from you is Jeffers or Hatch hating - So let’s see your Pawlenty Love.

He’s your man - You drive his truck - We wait to hear why people should vote for Pawlenty

    18. Sara Nelson Says:

      Hahahaha…… this should be good!

    19. Sam Says:

      Crickets!!
So I can only assume that Andy’s answer is - “I Hate Hatch”.

Which makes us so different from the Dems who have no ideas but just Hate Bush.
Because we have a governor we support because ….. “We Hate Hatch!”

Wow - Make you pround to be a Republican.

I can see the new slogan:
The Republican Party of MN - Were not the DFl - Ok, so we support many of the same things - Just not as much but look how scarry Mike Hatch is so you better vote for us.

Found this on ProtestWarrior - I think it fits MN GOP perfectly

    20. Andy Says:

I hate socialists. That is what it is. Sorry, I haven’t devoted all of my time to jumping through your stupid hoops or sitting by the computer to answer any of your demands. Yes my number one goal is to keep Democrats out of office. I don’t trust them, and I am unwilling to give them a chance.

      1) If it weren’t for Pawlenty, we’d have $35 billion dollar budget. He did stand up to the Dems. Not as much as you wanted to, but he did. The power structure of our state is all messed up, and it is a chess game between Dean Johnson and the Guv. Since Johnson and the DFL didn’t get everything they wanted, I consider that a decent performance. I know that since you didn’t get (or not get) everything you wanted, you see that as a loss. Too bad that isn’t reality in politics. You’ll never get everything, and you have to live with some stuff that is displeasing.

      2) I drove a truck for Pawlenty in 2 parades. So Fing what? Sorry to be a BPOU leader helping out the party. Prt of the duties I was elected to do. But then again, I am trying to make a difference from with in the party, you guys are just trolling comments on blogs thinking you are making some big difference.

      3) How is it that Jeffers will get Republicans and Democrats to work together in St. Paul and you 2 not be upset with the results? She has promised to bring a new tone or whatever to teh Capital. Just how is she going to get Dems on board, with out them getting some stuff. What stuff that the socialists want are you ok with?

I hope you 2 aren’t really as convinced that Jeffers will never let you down. Because once you are the Guv, and every single person is after you or wants something, sooner or later, no matter how strict to your principles you say you are, you’re gonna give in.

Now if you wouldn’t mind, I pointed this out on another post, go to blogger.com and set up your own blog. Quit hijacking my comments to spread your hate.

You and I probably agree on more things than not, but due to your crappy etiquette, I’m not willing to even listen or read your crap anymore. So get a life, or your own blog and move on.

    21. Sam Says:

      Two final thoughts on this.

      1) I wanted to see if you had any reason that you supported Pawlenty. The answer is you think he can win and you hate hatch. Fine reasons, but hoped that there was something deeper that I was missing.

      2) Driving a truck is one thing. We all have duties. Be proud that you are driving the truck is another.

That is the issue. If you feel you have to support the Gov becuase of your position then that’s fine.

But when you post about how wonderful it was - then you are becoming an advocate how wonderful a candidate Pawlenty is - and that made some wonder what it was that made you so proud. And the only answer I have seen is ‘I Hate Hatch’ Which is sort of ironic since you constantly make fun or Sara saying the only thing she likes about Jeffers is that Jeffers hates Pawlenty.
Trying to find the intellectual difference.

    22. Andy Says:

Pawlenty stood up to the DFL Senate. HE has held the line on taxes. He’s done away with the Profiles of learning. 2nd Amendment is law again in MN.

There is a lot to be happy with him on, and I am. My point with all of this is that if Pawlenty loses, all the stuff on your lists is only going to be worse under a Dem.

Sorry to be proud that the Guv asked me to help him out for a couple hours. Silly me.
