  • Gates in New Mac Ads

Posted by Andy on July 25th, 2006

I love them. “Uh, I’m gonna crash now” Heard it a dozen times in the last few weeks. Ha! I love them even more so because a few PCers I have talked to can relate to the Bill Gates looking guy playing the PC.

Yeah, take that Gates. Jobs is dissing you all the way to the bank. OK Gates probably owns the bank and sells millions of copies of Windows to said bank. But I still love how the PC looks like Jobs.

    Oh and they are funny.

    You decide

I have found it increasingly difficult to make fun of Mac users lately. Partially because of these commercials and partially because I know so little about computers that for all I know Mac could be superior. They’re funny commercials, but they have much greater potential for hilarity.

Yes, but you can’t make fun of Gates, which I just did, which means I will wake up with a dead horse’s head in my bed tomorrow.

The slacker-Mac dude is totally annoying. He reminds me of one of those ultra-superior coffee shop baristas (which is liberal for coffee shop guy) who correct your “large coffee” order with “grande?”. I wouldn’t hire him to seal-coat my driveway. But then what woud I know? I have a PC.

    4. G-Man Says:

Not to nit-pick, but I thought the PC guy looked more like Gates than Jobs.

And, yes, I can relate. While I appreciate Gates’ contribution to the industry, I’m not impressed with …. wait a minute …. rebooting now …. the reliability of Windows. Actually, it kind of resembles a Democrat – lot’s of look and feel but with limited security and substance.

Windows was a system built for the sale but not for reliability. (Hmm, sounds like Democrats again.) When it was introduced, it couldn’t touch the integrity of OS/2 or Apple. Unfortunately, IBM didn’t know how to sell OS/2 to vendors and Apple hadn’t discovered competitive pricing. I’m hoping Apple decides to compete even more with PC on pricing. Maybe success from this ad campaign will help.

The “reliability of Windows” is a problem? Dude! Upgrade. Now.

XP hasn’t crashed on my machine in the . . . what? . . . two years I’ve had it loaded. Not once. No Blue Screen of Death, no ” _____ is shutting down now . . .”. Nada. Completely reliable.

And, it’s easier to write viri for and hack into a Mac than a PC. It’s just that there’s fewer of them around, so there’s no real point to doing it yet.
