Why I Am This Way
I know a lot of people are stuck on issues out there. This or that, some politician somewhere has done something you don’t like, but you have to be realistic. In the lead up to election season and legislative times, you can and should be vocal and open with things. But since I am a party activist and leader, there comes a time when that effort needs to be harnessed into what really can make a difference that you can live with.
I’ve been as hard as some on the things Republicans have done on all levels from local to Federal issues. I’ve dished out a lot of crap. But as we are now down to us vs. them, it is time to pick a side. Hey, some of you oppose people on a particular issue and that is fine. You want your one or few things, and if you don’t get them, you’re willing to ‘throw the bums out’. Not me.
I voted for Jesse Ventura. (OK stop laughing) I thought that someone could buck the party system in a positive way and really change the way politics work. I saw after that mess that was Jesse ‘the Mind’, how wrong I was. We have a 2 party system in the country and state. MAjority matters, and with out majority votes, it is a waste of time and taxpayer money.
The way our government works is by getting 50% plus one (for the most part). In order to pass something into law, you need a majority to agree with you. That means in order to really make what you want to be law, to be law, you have to be in a party that will vote for it. There is no serious 3rd party when you actually get to where the laws happen. (Again, another brutal fact. Sorry!)
So I hitched my wagon to the GOP elephant because I think it will give me more of what I want than that ‘Ass’ ever will. Would I like the GOP to be the Euphoria that Conservatives and some Libertarians would? Hell yeah! Will those ideas ever be majority? Hell no!
So I made a choice. Give up some to get most. No I’m not happy with everything the GOP has done. Have I voiced all that concern on the blogs? No. But I do still let them know it. I send of emails to them just like other people do letting them know how I feel.
But I chose to fight against what I know I cannot tolerate publicly. If the Democrats get control of Minnesota’s government or the US, we’re dead and done for. They are seeking to impose their socialist ideals on us. Government run health care, a peace nick foreign policy that laughs off real threats and barters with our enemy, and spending increases so large we would never be able to recover.
Even the dream cycle of that when Carter beat Ford, paving the way for Reagan would be impossible. We cannot afford to take a cycle off. The DFL locally wants spending up by the bbillions. They owe it to their special interests to bring home the billion dollar bacon. The Education and public employees unions are demanding massive increases, and if they win, the DFL will bring it home.
The spending will be so huge and the programs will force so many to become so dependent on the government, that we will not be able to just take it all away next time when we win. Example Social security and health care, if teh Left gets their way, the US we all know and love is done for. Say hello tax increases and an end to economic growth.
You gotta give to get. So by getting some you actually do get something. Even if that is not their plan.
Nationally, we have a clear division between the ideals. One party wants to beg for a truce, and the other want to p-rotect America and freedom from those who do us harm. The left doesn’t understand the stakes, as it it will be their heads rolling past the right’s if we do give in to the thugs.
The only way to win the war on terror is to win it. Peace cannot be negotiated with masked men too cowardly to even wear a uniform for their cause. If the Democrats are giving control in the war on terror, we’re as good as dead.
So you have to pick and chose your issues. If your issue is proving your point, fine. If your point is to keep them, from killing us or bankrupting our society, you’re with me.
The only person who can represent you 100% of the time is you. If you won’t or can’t run, you gotta do one or the other. Staying home is not an option if you want anything to happen in your favor.
I just wrote this and published it from the patio of Old Chicago on a gorgeous solstice night. Beer is on tap, and I had a schtuckee day.

“The only person who can represent you 100% of the time is you.”
And (as I have said many times) any politician that agreed with me 100% would be as messed up as I am and that is not necessarily a good thing!
Boy, you bounced back with one hell of a post! Very well put.
I come from a similar place as you on this.
I see you went with my suggestion…drinking heavily…good work.
If the Democrats get control of Minnesota’s government or the US, we’re dead and done for.
We don’t know that, especially in MN. Minnesota is not terrible difficult to govern. 1 term under Jesse proved that. Nationally is a bot tougher, but 2 terms of Clinton did not ruin the nation, but it did launch the Contract with America! We should thank Clinton for giving us the House.
The fear many conservatives have is that the Republicans will treat us like the Democrats treat the blacks, they know we’ll vote for them so they don’t really give a shit about us. They will spend all their time pandering to the open borders crowd and generally ignore us becasue we are “loyal”. Both parties have adopted an attitude of “we such, but what are you gonna do, vote for the other guys?”
Elections are decided on election day, not one day eariler. Until that day, we should all reserve the right to tell the Republicans what we think and why we deserve respect. If we don’t we’ll continue to get the mediocre government that we deserve.
Every time I see a Republican try to cram the idea of a two party system down our throat I know that Jesse Ventura accomplished much more then he’s given credit for. If you voted for Jesse in 98 and now vote Republican you either weren’t paying attention in 98, aren’t paying attention now, or have no convictions to begin with. The fact of the matter is politics is just a big game to all these “two party system” shouters. They found out when someone else wins they can’t hijack the system and have gone back to playing the only game they know how.
