Words To Live By
"The era of small government is over ... government has to be more proactive, more aggressive." ( Tim Pawlenty 2006)

"You're just petty politicians, who'd sooner sign onto the wisdom of a tyrant in another country, than the demands of ticked off voters in your own." (Neil Cavuto June 2008)

“I didn’t question her patriotism. I questioned her judgment.” Mr. Cheney went on: “The point I made and I’ll make it again is that Al Qaeda functions on the basis that they think they can break our will. That’s their fundamental underlying strategy, that if they can kill enough Americans or cause enough havoc, create enough chaos in Iraq, then we’ll quit and go home. And my statement was that if we adopt the Pelosi policy, that then we will validate the strategy of Al Qaeda. I said it, and I meant it.” (Vice President Cheney NYT Feb. 2007)

"A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers. (Ronald Reagan March 1, 1975)

"Oh, no! First of all, if I took one vote away from a serious candidate, it would be a sin." (Al Franken Time Magazine, 9/1/03)

Memorial Weekend Round Up

So it was a pretty lame weekend for me. I was on-call for work, so I was trapped in the Twin Cities. But hey, I would have been miserable at the cabin, since it has no AC. So I guess it worked out ok. Except that I had planned on getting my yard cleaned up from the 4 trees I had cut down 2 weeks ago. I did do some yard work Saturday morning, but oh lordy, she was hot.

I settled for a nap and an appearance on the NARN with Mitch, Captain Ed, and MDE. That night, I went and had drinks with Jules, my com-padre from KvM & BvW, and her German hubby. It was a fun night right up until the Jag bomb. oooooofffftttttaaaa

Sunday was pretty lame too. I kinda pittered around the house most of the day. I went over to ma’s for a BBQ with my family. I did a few odd jobs for her while I was there. Good meal. etc etc. I got to hang out with the local nieces and nephews. Fun fun.

Around noon yesterday, my blog was hit with a hacker attack. It was down most of the day, and I feared the worst. There is always a fear that all of your files and archives have been deleted when this happens. Thanks to the super duper service of my host, all was well by midnight or so.

Well today I woke up and decided it was time to get something done. I ran to Ma’s to check on a couple other tasks there. One of which was getting her a new TV for the kitchen. No big task, just a TV I thought. So I ran to Best Buy and found one that was just right. Flat screen, small, with built in DVD. Problem was that the closest one is in Grand Forks. Well, while I was there, I browsed a bit for my own sake, and that was trouble.

But Mom first, well, after blowing a few hundred at HOM Furniture for a couple new tables for the living room. OK, back to Mom. I ran to Target to see if the TV in the ad was any good. No surprise, electronics at Target, not as good as they look in the ads.

So, I decided to run home to let the dog out and then run to pick up my tables in Coon Rapids. Then I ran to an old family friends TV shop that has always been a big help in the past. Well, they were the one store that decided to not be open today. So… Off to Circuit City to find the exact same crappy TV that was at Target.

Well I was starting to get to the point where I say screw it and go get the TV I wanted for my own and tell Ma that I had to order one for her. But then I drove past Ultimate Electronics and swung in. They had a TV that was perfect for my Ma. Mission accomplished!

But hey, I thought to myself, I had already bought myself a fancy schmancy table to put a brand new flat screen TV on. Well, while I’m here, I thought. So yeah, I did it. Right now I am sitting in my newly rearranged living room that now has a new fancy coffee table, HDTV flat screen with DVD-R (and such and such), just watching a movie typing away. I gotta say that the picture is fantastic!

So that was pretty much it. Not an exciting weekend. But I did get some housework done. Hung with the fam and a friend or 2. Got a new TV where I can now blog on the couch, with the doggy next too me. Which, he has finally caught on to, and is now sound a sleep curled up next to me.

  1. I was wondering if that was the case. I was trying to check the site last night from my mothers house in Chicago and I kept getting errors. However, we were having cable modem issues…good old Comcast…I wasn’t sure if it was your site or her cable…

Glad to hear nothing was lost.
