DFL Dancing a Jig
Ho hum. Source: MPR
DFL Party officials like their own chances. Party Chairman Brian Melendez talked about the 6th District campaign during an appearance at the 5th District DFL convention in St. Louis Park.
“Now we’ve got a couple of great candidates. But if the Republicans were to choose someone with intellegence and compassion and courage, they’re probably going hold on to that district. That’s the bad news. The good news is they just endorsed Michelle Bachmann,” Melendez said.
No comment from this peanut gallery other than, see! This is exactly what they wanted.

If nothing else, Bachmann will be a great fundraising tool for the DFL candidate.
More reason for us to work to insert Melendez’s foot in his mouth.
Come on, Andy. Do you really expect that if anyone else was endorsed, the DFL would have said anything better? “Well, the Republicans just endorsed Phil Krinkie. We might as well give up.”
Sure they’d be against who ever we picked, but we gave them THE candidate with a laundry list.
Yeah Andy, you wore me down with your convincing arguments. I’m sorry that I resisted until all the “little” endorsments were completed before recognising the errors of my philosophy. But from now on, I’m converted! For the rest of the endorsements, US Senator, Governer, State Officers I will check with Melendez first. I know that he can tell me who the best Republicans are to endorse. I know I was wrong in the past now for not listening to him sooner. I am sorry.
Brent
Brent, Republicans are chomping at the bit to have Patty win, why? She’s too easy to beat, regardless of the sympathy. Too late for that, she’s a politician now. She’s horrible on the issues, because she doesn’t know them.
Support for the amendment is down from last year, it is no longer the 70% issue it used to be. When your enemy sees a weakness they exploit it. The DFL no longer had to beat the Republican ideas, they just have to paint us with a broad brush. And you know what we opened the darn paint can for them.
I wish I were in adverstising. The commercials that will be run about Michele’s, um, accomplishments, are going to be just too easy. Just roll tape and sit back.

I don’t believe Democrats have beaten Republican ideas per se, they’ve simply been good at obstructing them (in the DFL Senate) and then allowing them to drift away from the public’s view. But, to the larger point, if you’re looking to the DFL Party Chair to inform you as to whom you should support, then, uh, you might as well not support any Republicans because he won’t endorse any of them.
The endorsement batte is over. Yes, there are bitter feelings about the outcome by those whose candidate was not endorsed; there always has been and always will be. That said, if this internecine warfare continues, Melendez and Wetterling will have succeeded because the GOP will not be unified in CD 6. A fractured, disunited party is the only way they know they can win, that’s why he’s spinning the result in this manner.
My point is we won’t even be talking about the actual differences between Republicans and Democrats. We’ll be forced to defend all the “extra-political” baggage instead and not actually debating the issues that actually matter in the halls of the US Congress.
I guess I don’t understand what the “extra-political” baggage is? I don’t consider Bachmann’s support for the marriage amendment as “extra-political” baggage because it’s a major issue, both at the state and federal levels.
It is all the stuff not related to the actual issues.
I can’t go into to detail just yet.
Let me say this. Bachmann, if she does get elected, would be a good Congressperson (IE make all the right decisions on votes), don’t get me wrong on that. That is not my beef.
Michele Bachmann and Dean Zimmerman might have more in common than supporting PRT.
“Michele Bachmann and Dean Zimmerman might have more in common than supporting PRT.”
Don’t be coy, if you have something concrete, state it.
