  • Why Sue Jeffers is Not Really a Republican, Her Supporters

Posted by Andy on May 1st, 2006

This is a comment from Mary one of Sue Jeffers’ (paid?) supporters left right here on RF.

Andy, you are one of the party’s best and brightest…… Or so you think. Being blind doesn’t mean you are making the right choices.

As for Sue Jeffers, she understands what this country was founded upon. Liberty and Justics for All. Or have you forgotten the words of the Pledge of Allegiance, the writings of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and every other great document that arises to the nature of the foundation of this great country?

Ron Carey and his Exec Board, along with several narrow-minded delegates like yourself, prove that you are NOT the people that this state, this country wants.

There is nothing more important than life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Sue knows that. But apparently Tim Pawlenty and his cronies at State Party (did you know T-Paw called Carey to tell him to drop out of the chairman’s race?) have put power and alliances above what is BEST for this STATE, its PEOPLE, and the general well-being and happiness in OUR LIVES.

I am so sick and tired of people like you who are blind followers of the Party. For instance, Tim Pawlenty is not a candidate for Governor in 2006. Yet you have said, in less words, that you will do anything in your power to make sure he STAYS governor. You are all for taking the PEOPLE OUT OF POLITICS.

Republicans are going to get their asses handed to them in November if State Party continues to play dictator.

Stop kissing their toes and start thinking about the future of our state.

Does that really sound like someone who wants to come in and work WITH people?

How is that supposed to make me, a GOP volunteer, local Leader, and Party supporter feel? Attacking me personally? Really? er um Great way to show you want to work with the Party and the people with in it.
I imply paid above, because if you follow the link Mary provided, you go to Sue Jeffers’ website. Obviously this is a campaign worker or supporter trolling for attention, which should be more than obvious since the post was about the 6th District Congressional race not the Governor’s.

Before I could even post this, another comment came through from Mary.

    1. Dan Says:

Mary is obviously upset that the state party chair has taken democracy out of the endorsement process for governor. I am as well. I am one Republican delegate who wants Jeffers to be heard. Leave it to the delegates, and we’ll determine who carrys the Republican endorsement. If Jeffers is “Repulican enough” to receive delegate lists, and convention access if she were running for the legislature, why not for governor? Something stinks. Pawlenty has said repeatedly that he welcomes Jeffer’s challenge, but, meanwhile Carey is running interferance, and has hijacked the party process.

    2. Doug Says:

      Dan,

Did Sue Jeffers run as a Libertarian, attend their convention, and win their endorsement or not? If that didn’t make a clear statement about her party affiliation, what does?

It’s not the Republican party’s role to be so “democratic” it’s open to Republicans, Libertarians, Greens, DFL’ers, and whomever else. We call that the general election.

Jeffers could make a better case to the delegates at this point by stating that she’s changing parties and joining the GOP. Instead she plays the fast-talk game about what party she belongs to while also stating she’ll run as a Libertarian if she doesn’t get the GOP endorsement. Outside of Jeffers has any other candidate in memory made that kind of statement and been well received by the delegates?

Incidentally, is your claim that Jeffers was offered delegate lists for the legislature AFTER she ran as a Libertarian and received their gubernatorial endorsement, or BEFORE? Because that little detail has bearing, does it not?

    3. Andy Says:

      Doug,

Sue was approached to run as a GOPer for the Senate, she refused. The relationship was severed.

    4. Mary Says:

Andy, I am not 1.) a Jeffers staffer and with that, not 2.) a PAID staffer.

I have, in fact, met her only once, briefly, and truly liked what she had to say. I have been following her campaign very very closely, though, seeing as this could be a whirlwind episode in Minnesota politics.

Furthermore, if you are going to enable comments to be posted on your blog, accept the heat.

Even more, I feel that you have been childish and unrepresentative as a ‘party leader’ and representative of the GOP party. I can’t say I’ve ever met you, but what I do know about you, I feel that you have been abusing your power to hurt the campaign of the only GOP candidate running for governor.

I cannot understand why you can apply one criteria for one race and a different set for the same party’s candidates in another race. My posts in regards to Phil Krinkie were to parallel what I believe is a double standard on your part. ESPECIALLY, as you are someone with a respectable amount of power within the MN GOP, or at least, someone with some name recognition and a well-read blog, I do not feel it is appropriate for YOU to be speaking on behalf of the GOP, nor to be bashing any other candidates, especially Sue Jeffers. She is, has been, and always will be a republican. If you’ve ever met her, or listened to her speeches or truly followed the developments in her campaign, you can see that.

I just want you to understand that this isn’t just a governor’s race, or a congressional seat. These are contests that are put on to elect the people who will run our state, and make decisions that affect our lives.

And lastly, since I do not have a website of my own, I continue to post Sue Jeffers’ website address, for the simple reason that I think you should examine it further.

Make that a challenge. I want you to go over her platform and tell me where she is going wrong.

Tell me why Sue Jeffers is wrong for Minnesota. Tell me why you want Krinkie the Fiscal Conservative, but not Jeffers the Fiscal Conservative.

But I will not apologize for pointing out your misguided preachings.

    5. Eva Young Says:

Actually Mary, I think the point of Andy’s post on Krinkie, was to talk about his endorsement for Phil Krinkie. I think it’s fair to ask commenters to stay to the topic of the post.

Andy does plenty of posts about Jeffers - and that’s where to raise that issue.

    6. Dan Says:

As I understand it, Carey flat out didn’t want Jeffers to run against Pawlenty, and tried to pursuade her to pursue another office.

Here’s the $10,000 question. What harm can come of Jeffers addressing GOP delegates? Is it that we can’t be trusted to make the “right” decision, so it has to be made for us ahead of time?

As Mary points out, right now there is only one declared GOP candidate for governor, and it’s Sue Jeffers.

    7. The Lady Logician Says:

Dan - what harm would there be in a Republican endorsed candidate speaking at the DFL Convention? Or a DFL endorsed candidate speaking to the Republican convention? That is what Ms. Jeffers is asking. She is an ENDORSED Libertarian candidate demanding to speak to the REPUBLICAN convention!

Mary said “I feel that you have been abusing your power to hurt the campaign of the only GOP candidate running for governor.”

One big problem with that statement Mary. Sue Jeffers ran for and ACCEPTED the LIBERTARIAN Party nomination for Governor - not the Republican. Therefore she can not be called a “GOP candidate”. I hate to belabor this point, but Sue Jeffers is the LIBERTARIAN PARTY CANDIDATE FOR GOVERNOR! Because of that, she is ineligible to speak to the Republican Party Convention.

    8. Andy Says:

Lady, Jeffers actually didn’t accept the endorsement as a stunt.

The Libertarian Party has a rule that their candidate can only have one endorsement (I think), so Jeffers did not accept it so she could run for the GOP to gain attention.

Which is just further proof that this is all a stunt. When she either does not get the GOP nod, or realizes this attempt at telling GOPers what they should think fails, she can always go back and run as the Libertarian candidate.

Dance with the one that brung ya!

    9. Doug Williams Says:

“What harm can come of Jeffers addressing GOP delegates? Is it that we can’t be trusted to make the “right” decision, so it has to be made for us ahead of time?”

Jeffers can speak, provided she has enough delegates supporting her. Are you really asking why Jeffers needs to concern herself with the same rules as other candidates?

    10. rew Says:

“I imply paid above, because if you follow the link Mary provided, you go to Sue Jeffers’ website. Obviously this is a campaign worker or supporter trolling for attention…”

Can I imply you are a paid member of the Kennedy campaign since all of your sites link to fundraisers for Kennedy? It would make things a lot easier for me…
      ;-)

    11. Andy Says:

      REW,

      Mary’s email address: SueForMN06 [at] comcast.net

      Hello???

    12. PolicyGuy Says:

      Andy,

Maybe Mary is just an enthusiastic supporter of Jeffers. People put bumper stickers on their cars, wear t-shirts, hats, and even get web addresses that reflect on a candidate … without being a member of the campaign.

    13. Andy Says:

      PG,

I said supporter in the original post.

    14. The Lady Logician Says:

Andy - thanks for the clarification, but that brings another question for the Jeffers supporters to mind.

If she is so keen on being the Republican endorsed candidate why did she approach the Libertarian Party in the first place?

When she announced initially as a Republican, I thought that a little competition (for Governor Pawlenty) would be a grand thing. I am not horribly thrilled with the Governor at this moment and an option would have been welcome. However, when she ran off to flirt with the Libertarian Party, I knew that this candidacy was (in Andy’s words) a stunt! We don’t need any more glory hounds running for office as Republicans - heaven knows we have more than enough of those on the ticket as it is! The party needs people who are actually willing to do the right thing for the people in Minnesota and I’m sorry - I have not seen that out of Sue Jeffers actions of the last few months!

    15. Andy Says:

I’m moving on to a new one here.

      http://www.residualforces.com/http:/residualforces.com/index.php/2006/05/02/jeffers-is-a-libertarian-5/

    16. Dan Says:

“If she is so keen on being the Republican endorsed candidate why did she approach the Libertarian Party in the first place?”

She began exploring a run for Governor with the GOP first. She was completely stonewalled then, as she is now. Because she had a relationship with some Libertarians due to the smoking-ban battle, she went to them as a volunteer pool to get her campaign up and running.

    17. Pets Says:

Like the look of the site and the information. Just wanted to say keep up the good work!
