DFL’s Melendez Smears The Messenger, As Usual

DFL Chair Brian Melendez has decided to launch a counter attack in defense of Dean Johnson.
“The minister who secretly taped Senator Johnson’s comments in a private meeting is a petty opportunist. His covert deception exposes the extremists pushing the same-sex amendment as people of weak principles.
Petty opportunist, nope, I think that was Rev/Senator/Majority Leader/DFLer Dean Johnson when he stood up in front of men wearing the cloth and lied to their faces, because they had opposing political views on an issue. And speaking of deceived, i was Dean Johnson that either deceived his fellow clergymen or the State’s Supreme Court.
What better way to show the tolerance of the DFL than to lash out at Religious leaders. I’d be darn careful if I was the DFL here, character assignation, your standard operating procedure, doesn’t go over that well with regular people.
But then again, the DFL is on the losing side of this issue. If they don’t smear every single proponent of this amendment, they just might be forced to allow it to be decided by the people.
What I don’t understand is if the DFL argument that our current law is safe from legal challenge, why not have an amendment as well. It is not like we’d actually be changing anything. You don’t suppose the DFL knows that a statute can be overturned, but an amendment cannot, do you? You’re not saying that the DFL is trying to stop this amendment, they know will pass if on the ballot, because they want to ensure that the DOMA statute is the law, so that their special interest orientated base can bring a legal challenge to it?
The DFL wouldn’t do that would they? Well, their chair has lashed out at military veterans and now clergy already this year. I wouldn’t put anything past them.
