Posted by Andy on March 1st, 2006

Just came out of my work coccoon for a second and I see all hell has broken out again. I just found this comment from Bob Collins, aka Polinaut, aka MPR’s blog, aka excuse to put biased commentary into the news that is publically funded, over on MDE.

Michael. I’ve actually already said this is several of the postings. This appears to be the tack the spin is going to take and as I told Mark Drake, it would be a mistake since the blogosphere is pretty tech savvy and they’ll take you apart.

Is he trying to say that a blogger dare not enter into the realm of debate, because he is not smart enough?

The CD isn’t being mailed to just Republicans so, theoretically, once you revealed yourself to be, for example, a STRONG Democrat, you could get a different presentation that approaches the issue differently. THAT’s the beauty of Flash.

So, no, it’s not really a reasonable expectation to say if you click something in Flash, you should know where the information goes.

Pay attention, reread that again, and then go on. You are about to see exactly why the media is viewed as so liberal.

And the folks who wrote the privacy laws in Minnesota know that too. The problem is, this stuff didn’t exist when the laws were written…so the laws pertain only to what ISPs doing.

That was media/liberal code for the law should make what the Republicans are doing illegal so he is going to continue to make this as big a story as possible. And if all falls according to plan, eventually the public will perceive the (completely) legal original act to be illegal and thus further the public’s (mistaken) distrust of innocent Republicans. (ahem, tried in the court of public opinion?)

The guy who co-wrote that law, by the way, was Tim Pawlenty. So you may take issue with what I think about the privacy of personal data…but you might want to take it up with him too.

My response : So what Bob, a member of the liberal media BTW, is saying is, it is NOT against the law what the GOP is doing, But it should be!

This is a perfect example of the media’s continuing mission to silence anything from the Republicans that will do damage to the Democratic Powers that be. Legal or illegal it must be stopped.  Collins  and the media will be all over this story because they don’t like what the Republicans were doing, it would benefit them. Just like the Midwest Heroes ads, these CD’s were going to harm the Democratic philisophy. And the media cannot allow that to happen.

As with the Midwest Heroes ad where they wanted to remind America’s of our mission in Iraq and to ask us to be proud of their efforts to build a democracy there, anything that will threaten the democrat’s political propoganda is not good news. I don’t believe the media feels these ads are misleading or false, but that they are actually right and threaten the information they want the American public to hear. This is where it becomes difficult for me to grasp - what is so wrong with an ad by servicemen who’ve actually seen the progress made in Iraq asking for the public’s support? And, what is actually illegal about these cds - doesn’t free speech still exist for everyone, even the Republican party? I believe this is why so many people are turning to the blogosphere for their news and turning off their TVs and Radios and putting down the newspapers!

AnnaB makes a good point. Why is it that the Democratic party has all of a sudden become proponents of limiting individual freedoms - like freedom of speech - when it has been their stance in the past to ensure freedom for everything to everyone regardless of the consequences. I guess the tide has turned and the Dems are grasping at loose ends to ensure that the media they have controlled for so long doesn’t allow the filtration of good news - accurate news - from reliable sources on the war on terror to enter the mainstream media. Television ads, direct-mail pieces - its all protected by the first amendment unless it is causes harm and this does exactly the opposite. These messages envoke hope.

This is unfortunate, but I’m sure just like the media’s love for giving attention to folks like Cindy Sheehan, the liberal media will only exacerbate this story. This will end up being criticized further by the media, and as it is correctly stated above, the public will look to the media for answers and be coerced into finding fault with Republicans.

These CD’s expected coverage is being compared to the Midwest Heroes ads, but i find this situation almost the opposite. With the Midwest Heroes, most of the mainstream media has avoided the story to benefit the Dem’s. Consequently you have most of the country that doesn’t know names like Merrilee Carlson, but everyone knows old Crawford Sheehan.
