John Murtha, Time To Exit Left
Rep. John Murtha is becoming one person who I have absolutely no respect for anymore. I used to think that his military service made up for his partisan rhetoric, but he just keeps going farther and farther, and it is getting harder to overlook.
My example (today) of why Democrats cannot be trusted with America’s National Security. Reuters
“Would you join (the military) today?,” he was asked in an interview taped on Friday.
“No,” replied Murtha of Pennsylvania, the top Democrat on the House of Representatives subcommittee that oversees defense spending and one of his party’s leading spokesmen on military issues.
“And I think you’re saying the average guy out there who’s considering recruitment is justified in saying ‘I don’t want to serve’,” the interviewer continued.
“Exactly right,” said Murtha, who drew White House ire in November after becoming the first ranking Democrat to push for a pullout of U.S. forces from Iraq as soon as it could be done safely.
This is the left’s attitude about our military nowadays.
Murtha did not respond directly when asked whether a lack of combat experience might have affected the decision-making of Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and their former top deputies.
His answer should have been “No!”
Asked for comment, a Defense Department spokesman, Lt. Col. John Skinner, said: “We have an all-volunteer military. People are free to choose whether they serve or not.”
But then again, it is the Democrats that have most recenty pushed/hinted at a draft. They hope to sway our public into never allowing a President to be elected if he will ‘preemptively’ strike our enemies. (And gosh forbid one does get elected, they will try to impeach him/her the first chance they get.) And how better to do that than to bring back the draft. If people are randomly selected to fight wars, public opinion will quickly sway against stopping any threat before it gathers to operational levels. Once again politics on the ground at home will trump the strategy on the battlefield.
I hope any military men and women, or their families that hear this partisan anti-war statements from men and women like Murtha know that he does not speak for me or most of my fellow Americans. He is an angry man who no longer has what it takes to defend our nation. Don’t ever let these petty people convince you of anything other than the fact that you are true heroes, America’s finest.
War is ugly. No one ever said it was different. But from time to time, it must be fought. When those times come, the cowards need to step aside and let the grown ups take the reigns. Rep. Murtha, I know you hate Bush, but that is no excuse to demoralize our troops. You should be ashamed of yourself, but you are a Democrat, I’m sure you just made the A-list of liberal fundraising speakers. Too bad for the men and women in the American military, the last thing they need is another top Democrat winging from coast to coast demoralizing our troops at blacktie affairs. But then again, you don’t really care about that do you?

You know, when Murtha came out against the prolonged occupation (we won the war already, we executed Regime Change and disarmed Iraq, the stated goals going into this war) I hoped the right would go after him, because I knew the American people were smart enough to realize someone who was praised by the right two weeks before is someone they could trust to give them an honest assesment of the war. When you attack someone like Murtha, who has a better sense for military needs, tactics, and the situation on the ground than you or any of us sitting here, you marginalize yourself and the “stay-the-course” crowd. So, keep it up and maybe we’ll get out when the votes in Congress finally match up with public opinion.
First of all, I NEVER praised what he said.
The American people did not praise the yellow bellied cut and run coward. You may have, but we didn’t.
I never claimed to be a military tactician, but Murtha is far from it in respect to today’s wars. It ain’t the same as when he served.
Remember Mogudeshu? It was your all-war-knowing Murtha who advised Clinton to cut and run there too.
The only wisdom I can see from his statements is turn and run. Maybe you like that, but it ain’t going to accomplish nothing in respects to securing America and peace.
I have so much more faith in the people of this country to realize that the left’s goal of simply ending wars with out finishing them is basically suicide. Peace is a noble goal, but one that won’t come with out making it happen. You need to prove to the real bad guys (THAT IS THE ONES WE”RE FIGHTING NOT US OURSELVES) that their tactics of fear, intimidation, and terror will not be tolerated. Victory much like peace must be fought for, not asked for.
WE WON THE WAR!
Bush sent us to war to execute Regime Change in Iraq and to disarm Saddam. We did those. It took maybe 2 months and very few people died on either side as the Iraqi military basically gave up when we invaded.
Now, there is a Civil War; much like in numerous other countries all over the planet. Murtha’s plan is to get our troops out of the middle of the Civil War and move them to other countries in the region. Then, if there are big problems that actualy could impact our national security, we can move our troops back in. Right now, nothing happening in Iraq is impacting American national security, and I for one (John Murtha for another) don’t want our troops used unless it impacts American national security.
Now, I know you’ll say we are fighting terrorists, blah, blah, blah. If you cared about fighting terrorists, we wouldn’t have gone into Iraq in the first place. We know there are terrorists in many places in the Middle East and elsewhere, but Saddam Hussein ran a secular dictatorship that did not stand for Islamic extreamist terrorists.
And if Murtha is no war tactician, what does that make Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld, cause they sure don’t know what they are doing. Its not just nameless replaceable troops we are losing over there. Todays military doesn’t work like cogs in a machine that can be replaced with another warm body. These troops are skilled and when one gets killed we are losing expertise and ability that won’t be easily replaced, making it more dangerous and less effective for the remaining forces.
Do you think moving them will get them out of hram’s way, when harm is being brought by people not from Iraq?
We tried your/Murtha’s plan once. The Gulf War. We kept troops staged in case, look what happened.
Why the hell is Iraq full of al Queda based/linked terrorists if we aren’t fighting terrorists? Why was Saddam paying Palestinian terrorists for murdering Israelis? Why did we find training bases there? Why was Zaqawi being hospitalized there? Why are there so many links to terror that you ignore? Oh yeah, it doesn’t fit with your politics now does it?
This is getting old. We get it, you are a coward who is too sqeamish to finish a tough fight. Okay, we got it. No need to try to delegitimize everything because you can’t handle it. Thank god your kind weren’t in control. Thank god your mentality of “requiring military service to lead” isn’t the way it works. I don’t remember the left hammering Clinton like this. Why did Mrtha offer him advice instead of questioning his ability to be commander in chief? He did flee the draft to Oxford didn’t he?
I’m willing to bet that those brave men and women over there would reup in today’s military. In fact I know of one guy who has decided to reenlist.
argh
