  • Live Blogging My New Year’s Eve

Posted by Andy on December 31st, 2005

I’m a single guy who does not live at bars trying to not feel single. So, I am going to be liveblogging my New Year’s Eve. It is amature night, and I am not about to drive anywhere just to not be alone. Besides, I have a dog to keep me company.

    6:30
The day started out with me waking up my 2 nephews (9 & 11) who spent the night at my house last night, just 5 hours after they went to sleep. Whenever they come to town to visit their Grandma, I have them over for a night of video games, movies, and pizza. Our usual day after ‘o’ gamming was cut short by me having to have to plow snow today. I got them up a little earlier than they liked so we could have one last battle royale and a super greasy breakfast their mom would never let them eat.

    10:00
I was at work to plow snow. I got to run the big snow blower, and it went swimmingly. We were done in just 2 hours.

    12:15
I received a call from my sister (mom of 2 nephews) at 12:15, she backed into the garage at our Mom’s, and broke her rear view mirror. She needed me to find a replacement. (On a Saturday, New Year’s Eve to make it worse.) So I drove around to local Chevy dealers and parts stores with no avail. Dealers were closed, and the parts stores didn’t carry the mirror, so thank goodness she is leaving Monday, instead of Sunday. I’ll get her a new one Monday morning before she leaves.

    1:00
    Plowed my driveway

    2:00
I am currently at the Fortress of Solitude writing my Year in Rear View.

I have no intentions of going out tonight. I’m going to do my usual loaner thing and get a good steak, some broccoli, and a bottle of top shelf booze for a night all alone in front of the boob tube. It is not like I set out to do this, but circumstances led to me spending another New Year’s alone. Silly thing is, that I have never actually kissed anyone on New Year’s as everyone else does. There was one time I went to a party with an old buddy, but having his friend’s mom kiss me on the cheek didn’t count as far as I’m concerned. I’m a New Year’s virgin I guess, and it won’t change this time. (There was a chance if all that changing this year, but “errors crept in”)

So, I’ll be spending the evening deep with in the confines of RF HQ. I’ll post the happenings as they unfold.

(I’m not doing this to seem pathetic. Maybe I will give some other soul the comfort that like Valentine’s day, New Year’s can be just another night alone.)

    Developing…

    Update:
I just got an email that makes everything else this year pale in comparison. Thank you and same to you. You have made this year worth while!

Cooking a fabulous Sirloin, Broccoli, and Baked Potato right now.

    7:29
Daredevil on a loop on New Year’s? You have got to be kidding me FX.

Oh and Miss Congeniality on TNT? OMG!!!!!!!!!

Screw it, I’m going to bed.

    11:59
Nice nap. Woke up to watch ball drop. Yeah. It fell just like every other year. Whoopy!

    Happy New Year

I’ve got about 25 minutes to help you with the “new year’s virgin” thing.

Sorry to hear that you don’t have a date tonight, but you are smart to stay home and avoid the amateurs. My husband and I have done the same thing (stayed home) for years now. Our exciting night includes a good wine (something Doug would appreciate) and hours of video gaming with our dear child.

      Happy New Year!

      You wish!

thanks. Too many wankers on the roads to go out as usual. I’m leaning towards something a little stronger than wine though. Crown Royal seems to be on my mind. I spent last night playing vids with my nephews. Tonight is for me.

      Happy New Year!

Daredevil and Miss Congeniality???? That’s why you play video games on New Years Eve. So you don’t have to put up with the garbage on TV…of course this also explains why I blog….there is nothing on the television that I want to watch!
