Words To Live By
"The era of small government is over ... government has to be more proactive, more aggressive." ( Tim Pawlenty 2006)

"You're just petty politicians, who'd sooner sign onto the wisdom of a tyrant in another country, than the demands of ticked off voters in your own." (Neil Cavuto June 2008)

“I didn’t question her patriotism. I questioned her judgment.” Mr. Cheney went on: “The point I made and I’ll make it again is that Al Qaeda functions on the basis that they think they can break our will. That’s their fundamental underlying strategy, that if they can kill enough Americans or cause enough havoc, create enough chaos in Iraq, then we’ll quit and go home. And my statement was that if we adopt the Pelosi policy, that then we will validate the strategy of Al Qaeda. I said it, and I meant it.” (Vice President Cheney NYT Feb. 2007)

"A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers. (Ronald Reagan March 1, 1975)

"Oh, no! First of all, if I took one vote away from a serious candidate, it would be a sin." (Al Franken Time Magazine, 9/1/03)

Pawlenty’s Challenger ????

Here are a few of the guesses so far that have come forward.

Jason Lewis, Brian Sullivan, David Strom (Tony G)
Brian LeClair (emailer)
Mystery Jerk (bobby b)
Geoff Michel (troll site)
Mystery Candidate (Loyal GOP)

As I said, I’ll be meeting with the person next week. I will not only give you all the name of the person, but the reason(s) why they are doing this after that.

I’m sure some bloggers hate me for sitting on the name. (ahem, hypocrits!) But until I can get some information from the person and see if they really are serious before I throw them to the assembled pack of wolves, I want to hold off. In the short time (24hrs) there has been some pretty serious talk going around, some threatening, some cheering, even though they don’t know who the person is. I want to give this person the chance to go public on their own accords. I would prefer that the message comes along with the name.

So fire away all you cool headed people. Tear me to shreds. Insult me. Degrade this blog. I don’t see what that proves. My blog, my way. Deal with it.

    Andy,

Some of us out here think you’re doing the right thing. Let’s give this person the chance to change their mind before their name is leaked. Once they start getting attacked and have to defend themselves they may get their back up and decide to hell with them, I’m staying in. Hopefully this person will decide that it’s not a good thing to elect Mike Hatch, Becky Lourey, Steve Kelly or Kelly Doran governor.

    Question of Procedure.

Can I insult you or degrade your blog even if it’s not in reference to this topic?? While this topic is interesting I’m mostly interested in ridiculing you, as you well know.

Get back to me. Since my blog is still down, my writers don’t have much to do. I was gonna get them started on insulting you.

  3. I’ll start an open thread for you. Have at it.

Talking the person out of running is 100% wrong. Talking him into running as a GOP is acceptable. Letting the person run as an independent would be a far-sighted move. While giving the GOP an excuse to focus resources on the House & Senate races to get strong majorities in those could help significantly reduce the impact of a liberal Governor it would also send a STRONG message to conservatives in the future: Don’t abandon your base.

While losing the White House from 1992-2000 was difficult it did send the message that the base should not be dissed and it seems like the MN GOP needs that lesson again. Additionally the 8 years of DNC White House forced the GOP to examine itself and is a much stronger GOP post-Clinton than it was pre-Clinton. (Yes, 9-11 helped, but the GOP was stronger by 1994 than 1992 and kept getting stronger.)

I think the talk should be with Pawlenty to get him on track. Get him back to the Pawlenty that campaigned from the Right in 2002. Voters prefer the candidate that they know to the one they don’t know (whether from unfamiliarity or lack-of-spine).
