Dear Governor Pawlenty,
To: Governor Tim Pawlenty,
I think you did a decent job last session. You did not have the support from the Republicans in the Legislature that you needed to. I can see this, but few others can. And that is a problem.
You really need to get out on the stump and defend yourself. Just months ago these same people who today attacking you, were calling you a Presidential contender. Now they won’t back you for dogcatcher. That is not good, because you need them to be on your side.
Your intentions were good last session, but they were twisted through the media and spun against you.
My advice to you would be to get out in public again. I’ve seen you speak at Chamber of Commerce functions and other places where you clearly explained yourself. I was part of that conference call where you said loud and clear that you could not do it alone. Take those same messages public.
Get out the message that in order to have a smaller, less expensive government we need to have a Legislature with a strong majority of fiscal conservatives. One Governor cannot do it alone. Get out there and ask that the people who are so upset with you, help get you what you need, more fiscal conservatives in office.
I fear if you continue to stay behind the scenes, your support will be damaged beyond repair.
Keep your chin up, I still support you. And remember that a lot of the people who are ‘giving up’ on you, cannot see the forest through the trees.
A concerned supporter,
Andy Aplikowski

We don’t agree on Pawlenty, but I like this letter. I agree the MSM gave Dean Johnson, an obvious liar, one of the most amazingly complete passes in Minnesota political history. So right or wrong, Pawlenty has to get out there and re-establish himself with the voters. I hope Pawlenty understands that he is indeed in trouble with a significant portion of the base as your letter states.
Pawlenty is good in prepared speeches. I was at the April 15 rally – he was great. But he gives it all back and more on Almanac and At Issue. So yes, get out there on the stump, and stay off the Almanac couch for a while.
But there’s a big gut-check coming – the stadium special session that even a DFL insider said that there was zero public clamor for. If the Governor bites, that could flood the fifth compartment of the SS Pawlenty.
I heard him on Ron and Mark’s show. He’s trying to make the case for a special session. GULP!
