Words To Live By
"You're just petty politicians, who'd sooner sign onto the wisdom of a tyrant in another country, than the demands of ticked off voters in your own." (Neil Cavuto June 2008)

“I didn’t question her patriotism. I questioned her judgment.” Mr. Cheney went on: “The point I made and I’ll make it again is that Al Qaeda functions on the basis that they think they can break our will. That’s their fundamental underlying strategy, that if they can kill enough Americans or cause enough havoc, create enough chaos in Iraq, then we’ll quit and go home. And my statement was that if we adopt the Pelosi policy, that then we will validate the strategy of Al Qaeda. I said it, and I meant it.” (Vice President Cheney NYT Feb. 2007)

"A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers. (Ronald Reagan March 1, 1975)

"Oh, no! First of all, if I took one vote away from a serious candidate, it would be a sin." (Al Franken Time Magazine, 9/1/03)

Possible Judicial Deal?

As I was writing the last post, about a Senate All nighter, the news popped up that a deal had been reached. Drudge has the flashing lights up now.

We’ll see.

But in the mean time, hold the launch!

Developing……

Update!

Drudge, Fox News, and CNN are all posting Breaking News Headlines with more to come.

Update!

Its official, the GOP is dead, long live the dems.

Agreement would clear the way for yes or no votes on some of Bush’s nominees… Dems pledge not to filibuster any of Bush’s future appeals court or Supreme Court nominees except in ‘extraordinary circumstances’…

Why the heck did they make this deal?

And more importantly, will Frist and the real GOP leadership abide by the twisting twelve’s deal?

Let’s not forget, the twelve senators were the 6 Dems and 6 GOPers who are too afraid to take a stand. I hope Frist does not give in. If he does, I will never donate to a federal Campaign again. I mena what is the point? Forget ARORA and not one more dime. They will have to pay me to support them. If This deal is for real and accepted, I give up. The Senate GOP will be dead to me. 55 seats is the majority. 55 seats gives you control of the agenda. 55 seats means you can do as you like.

But it would appear that not 41 Senators, but just 12 have circumvented the Constitutionally given Majority Power in the Senate.

I hope this is an unwarranted rant, but I am terrified the GOP has fell for the compromise again. Every time they do it, the Dems stab them in the back, and the media calls them out as cowards or flip floppers. You better not.

Update!

Hugh sounds bad!

Update!
Yahoo!

These officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the agreement would clear the way for yes-or-no votes on some of Bush’s nominees, but make no guarantee.Under the agreement, Democrats would pledge not to filibuster any of Bush’s future appeals court or Supreme Court nominees except in “extraordinary circumstances.”

For their part, Republicans agreed not to support an attempt to strip Democrats of their right to block votes.

If this is true, GOP ist muerto!

The Gang of Seven for the Republicans: McCain, Warner, Graham, Chaffee, Collins, Snowe, and Dewine. You can add Bill Frist to that list, for stalling this debate until the momentum from the previous election had dissipated.

Update, Dewine, not Specter from above.

If anyone has the stomach or maybe temperment to call Frist, give him this site. RNC’s Up or Down Vote
Myth-Fact:
Judicial Nominations

  • Myth #1: Senate Republicans Are Attempting To Abolish All Filibusters.
Fact: Republicans Are Seeking To Reestablish The Senate’s Traditional Role In The Judicial Nomination Process, Not Eliminate All Filibusters, An Initiative Some Democrats Have Supported In The Past.
  • Myth #2: Filibusters Of Judicial Nominations Are Part Of Senate Tradition.
Fact: Having To Overcome A Filibuster (Or Obtaining 60 Votes) On Judicial Nominations Is Unprecedented And Has Never Been The Confirmation Test For A Nominee — And In The Past, Even Democrats Have Called For Up Or Down Votes.
  • Myth #3: Democrats Want To Continue Debating These Nominations So They Can Reach A Compromise With The Republican Majority.
Fact: The Democrats Have Threatened To Shut Down The Senate Rather Than Carry Out Their Constitutional Obligation To Provide An Up Or Down Vote On Judicial Nominees.
  • Myth #4: Democrats Treatment Of Bush’s Nominees Is Analogous To Republicans Treatment Of Clinton’s Nominees.
Fact: President Clinton’s Judicial Nominees Were Not Filibustered And Never Before Has A Judicial Nominee With Clear Majority Support Been Denied An Up-Or-Down Vote On The Senate Floor By A Filibuster.
  • Myth #5: The Constitutional Option Is Unprecedented.
Fact: Senate Democrats Have Used The Constitutional Option In The Past.

Update!

Warner
Graham
Chaffee
Collins
Snowe
Dewine

You can add Bill Frist

Liebermann makes 8

The deal was struck around the table in Sen. John McCain’s office, across the street from the Capitol where senators had expected an all-night session of speech-making, prelude to an anticipated showdown on Tuesday.

triple_a: So, what are we supposed to do now? Some of your previous postings on this issue are troubling to me. It sounds to me like you feel we should punish conservative Republicans for the moderate’s positions.

Should I not give any more money to Kennedy’s Senate campaign and other conservative Republicans as retribution for states electing moderate Republicans?

Let me get this straight, since we can’t have 60 conservatives, we should help the Democrats win seats to teach the conservatives a lesson?

I’m concerned about a seemingly prevailing attitude that if we can’t have a super majority right now, we may as well not have a majority at all. It just seems like a bad strategy to me.

I don’t think that I’ll be seeing very many moonbats stopping donations to liberals just because 7 Democrats sided with Republicans.

My response to this is not to quit donating to Republicans. If I could I would donate twice as much. My response now is not to figure out how to hurt conservatives, but help them increase their majority.

Brent answers to your questions are in order.

I guess I am since the conservatives seem to have let the moderates take over.

Kennedy has said that he will support the nominees, we’ll have to take him at his word. Since he is now the presumptive one, until he waivers, he’s my guy.

What is the point wasting time, effort, and money if the Republican acts just like the Democrat and does more harm than good?

We have 55 Senators right now and we can’t do something that requires only 51. We seem to need 64 or 65 votes to accomplish anything. And since 7 Republicans choose to side with the Dems, we hypothetically need 67 votes, that is impossible to accomplish.

No they work twice as hard to get more liberal people elected. And their elected officials listen. Example, the Dem base didn’t want Bush appealat judges to get through, and their Senators did everything possible to see to it. Even the compromise, pays tribute to the Left more than the Right.

I am not trying to hurt Republicans, I am joining the chorus of conservatives that are dangling all we can in front of them, with holding donations from them until they act accordingly.

I’m still a Republican, I am just tired of the party taking me and others like me for granted. It gets awfully frustrating when the politicians promise the world and deliver Des Moines.
