Words To Live By
"The era of small government is over ... government has to be more proactive, more aggressive." ( Tim Pawlenty 2006)

"You're just petty politicians, who'd sooner sign onto the wisdom of a tyrant in another country, than the demands of ticked off voters in your own." (Neil Cavuto June 2008)

“I didn’t question her patriotism. I questioned her judgment.” Mr. Cheney went on: “The point I made and I’ll make it again is that Al Qaeda functions on the basis that they think they can break our will. That’s their fundamental underlying strategy, that if they can kill enough Americans or cause enough havoc, create enough chaos in Iraq, then we’ll quit and go home. And my statement was that if we adopt the Pelosi policy, that then we will validate the strategy of Al Qaeda. I said it, and I meant it.” (Vice President Cheney NYT Feb. 2007)

"A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers. (Ronald Reagan March 1, 1975)

"Oh, no! First of all, if I took one vote away from a serious candidate, it would be a sin." (Al Franken Time Magazine, 9/1/03)

They did it again

The DFL controled Senate has blocked the ability for Minnesotans to choose again. Story here

They rejected the bill, SF1691 that would have allowed Minnesotans to vote on a constitutional ammendment deciding whether or not marriage should be limitted to one man and one woman. That’s it. It has nothing to do with gays or gayness. It is a bill that would have given the choice to the people. But no, we get crap like this:

“We are Minnesotans. We are Americans,” said state Sen. Scott Dibble, DFL-Minneapolis, who is gay. “We always have been and we always will be. This legislature and this governor need to know this is our government too, and they have to know they can’t take it away from us.”

Oh, isn’t it my Government also? Nope, it isn’t is it?

Then the AP reporter, who is obviously loving the DFL obstruction, added this:

Bachmann’s bill would put a constitutional amendment that defines marriage only as between a man and a woman on the November 2006 ballot. Bachmann is campaigning for a place on the same ballot in the 6th district U.S. House race.

What does that really matter? So Bachman is running for a Congressional seat. A lot of people are.

Then I see my DFL Senator’s quote.

Sen. Don Betzold, chairman of the Judiciary Committee, said Bachmann filed the bill late and only asked for a hearing last week – just as his committee was bumping up against legislative deadlines. He said he’d give the bill a hearing – but left open the possibility it could be next year instead of this session.

Yeah this guy is the one who can make or break our chances here. I have personally talked to him about this, and he refused to answer my question on whether he would or wouldn’t A) allow it to have a committee hearing & B) how he would vote on it. Sorry to say floks, he is toeing his party line. He is going to do everything he can to keep that from the Senate floor. If the bill makes it there, it will pass I think. It is up to him to keep us from getting to choose. Kind of ironic that a DFLer is being anti-choice huh?

Has nothing to do with gays or gayness? Haha! Funny.

I think trying to force a floor vote on the very same day as Minnesota citizens came to the Capitol to add to the debate is a pretty cold and calculated political move, not too mention just plain tacky. This is as much about political posturing and her run for Congress, as it is about marriage.

It was fun to watch her hiding in the bushes yesterday too.

First off Betzold is the one circumventing the process by refusing to give the bill a chance. He won’t ever let that thing out of committee. The reason he is doing that is because he knows it will pass the Senate. And like in every other state it has been tried, it will overwhelmingly be passed by the MN voters .

I want this to passed in the Senate, and get voted on by all of the people in MN, not just the ones who take a day off work and go to the Capital. But let all the voters decide on the course of our State. It is being cointroled by a priveledge few right now who don’t have the public’s interests in mind, on both sides.
