Vox Blogoli 2.2: Does the Senate GOP Go McClellan or Grant if Harry Reid “Goes Gingrich?”
A better question: Do the Republicans have the stomach to be the majority party?
That is what I really wonder. I am from Minnesota, and our Republican Party here is in the same shambles that the DNC is in. We are crumbling here, abandoning our conservative roots. As I have posted on before.
I am terrified that the national party will crumble under the great responsiblity of being in the leadership position. Will they give in to Harry’s will, what about how Hillary is sounding more Republican than a lot of Republicans. Will the Senate Republicans grow a back bone? Quite honestly, I don’t think they have the cahonis. The Senate Dems have been brilliantly making the Republicans look like idiots. The Dems have been running the Senate for years. Yes, we have a majority, on paper. But the Dems have been setting the tone of what gets done.
Do you remember that phony all night slumber party the Republicans had trying to force Daschle and the Dems to cave on blocking judicial appointment? Yeah me niether I just spent 20 minutes trying to find anything on it. I can’t even remember what that procuedure was called.
I do not think that Frist has what it takes to lead the Senate Majority. He seems like a good guy, I’m not trying to attack him, but his position has to be one getting the majority’s over all agenda thrusted to the front of the docket. His position as Majority leader is not to pass his pet legislation, health care entitlements.
I am an avid Bush supporter, but I am terrified that the BUSH/FRIST medicare expansion last session will be my generation’s next government crisis like social security. The program is crazy. The Government paying for already overpriced meds that are only high priced because the government says that if some one can’t pay, that the governemnt will pay. Yeah, great so by the time I am old enough to get my taste of this garbage program, the budget for it will be $10,000,000,000,000 (that is supposed to be trillions, I unlike Congress don’t like to see numbers that large). How the heck will we be able to afford it?
So to answer Hugh’s question, or in my Rumsfeldian way of making up my own, NO the Republicans can’t handle the job ahead of them. The Dems are on life support, but we have a Dr. at the helm of the Senate Republicans, I am afraid instead of putting Harry, Teddy, and the good old boys away, Frist, Specter, and the GOP old timers will give the Dems mouth to mouth. Don’t they know that working together for a Democrat means doing what the democrats want?
I have a horrible feeling about the state of conservatism in this country. In the last 2 elections (’02 & ‘04).
We have either been fooled into believing those candidates who used to be moderates (and now called themselves conservatives) had changed to being conservative and we voted them in on what they said they’d act like so that they could retain their seats in this new Red America. Have we been used for a politician’s own self promotion and interest? Were all those things they said, just months ago, about pushing judges threw for up and down votes, lies?
OR
Does Rove have his throat on the Dems, and this is all one big plan to push a real conservative agenda? Did they pass a bogus medicare bill only so that the Dems would scream and say look how bad that is, let’s get rid of that? Then the Republicans could get rid of an entitlement program? (I don’t think so.)
Thanks Hugh. I always enjoy the opportunity he gives us little know bloggers.
